Athletic Elegance
With the Genesis GV80 from
Zurich to Saint-Tropez
Five o’clock in the morning.
The summer heat is already looming, but the air is still pleasantly cool as we start up the Genesis GV80 and head south. There’s already a traffic jam before the Gotthard Road Tunnel, so we opt for the more scenic route: up and over the pass.
On the Tremola
Göschenen fades in the rearview mirror, and the valley begins to narrow. At the turnoff to the Tremola, we leave the modern road behind. Cobblestones crunch beneath the tires as switchbacks wind their way toward the sky. Near the top, we’re greeted by an almost surreal silence, the heat of the lowlands suddenly feels worlds away.
Up here, I stage the GV80: black and white, stark contrast high-tech meets historic cobblestones. I play with angles and light. A dream not just for photographers.
Down South
We pack up, roll down, through Chiasso and past Genoa, we glide toward the Côte d’Azur.
By late afternoon, we reach Pampelonne Beach near Saint-Tropez; the sun is sinking, the horizon glowing with soft light.
The contrast couldn’t be greater: this morning, from the green in Zurich and a pause on the cobbled ascent. Now, sand and sea salt in the evening air. We drink a Pastis and order the catch of the day at the small restaurant Le Mignon on the beach. I won’t say more, the rest you’ll have to discover for yourself.
One more thing: I don’t feel the 730 km we drove today — thank you, Genesis.
