Metamorphosis on the Tschierva Glacier
Rugged Resilience
Nestled below Piz Roseg, at the end of the picturesque Val Roseg, lies a truly special glacier. Like so many others, it is feeling the profound impact of climate change. Yet, its high position in steep mountain terrain gives rise to spectacular, ever-changing crevasses and ice sculptures.
It is a river of ice—a dynamic, living sculptor. This is a dangerous place, as these magnificent forms are in a constant state of collapse. But every time I have the chance to visit the Tschierva Glacier, I feel the privilege of experiencing this rugged nature. This perspective gives me the freedom to focus on the unique and fleeting beauty of these natural sculptures.
The Tschierva Glacier has become a powerful symbol of our planet's changing climate. My work aims to hold this duality in focus: the sublime, architectural beauty of the ice and the deep sorrow of its disappearance. Through these images, I invite the viewer to contemplate what we are losing.
This growing collection of fine art photographs of the Tschierva Glacier is an invitation to pause and reflect. It asks us to consider the intricate relationship between art, science, politics, and the environment, urging a deeper engagement with the world around us.
