This wave is as monumental as they come, thanks to a vast underwater canyon that terminates directly in front of Praia do Norte. As the swell approaches the shore, the canyon's end amplifies the wave, culminating in the renowned Nazaré wave.
These waves are from the infamous 'Crazy Wednesday' in November 2018. The waves steadily built up throughout the night. Just before midnight, I made my way to the lighthouse, or 'faro,' in Nazaré. It was pitch black; no lights, no stars, and no moon. No horror film could ever match the awe-inspiring sound of these waves crashing against the rocks beneath the lighthouse.
As dawn broke the next morning, I was finally able to witness the Nazaré waves with my own eyes. Question for the observant: Can you spot the Fibonacci curve in this majestic scene?
